H-Soz-Kult ( Humanities - social and cultural history , abbreviated to H-Soz-u-Kult until 2014 ) is a specialist forum and a moderated information and communication platform for historians and publishes specialist news and publications on the Internet. It is located at the Humboldt University in Berlin . The articles published on the website can also be obtained via mailing lists, RSS feeds and twitter. H-Soz-Kult was created as a mailing list for H-Net and is still a partner of this thematically wide-ranging forum. Between 2002 and 2007 the project was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) as part of the cooperation project Clio-online .

The name refers to the areas of social history and cultural history , in the meantime all historical areas as well as interdisciplinary research topics are covered.

Self-presentation

Since it was founded, the platform's operators have committed themselves to the motto 'by scientists - for scientists - by scientists' in the sense of a community network and are committed to the open access approach. The project and its central editorial team have existed at the Institute for History at the Humboldt University in Berlin since 1996. Since then, H-Soz-Kult has developed into an important provider and broker of historical specialist information in German-speaking countries.

profile

The offers of H-Soz-Kult can be accessed via the website, via e-mail, RSS feeds and twitter. More than 23,000 subscribers from over 70 countries receive up to 20 daily contributions from H-Soz-Kult, with the focus of the readership coming from the German-speaking area.

The contributions from H-Soz-Kult and the affiliated specialist forums Zeitgeschichte-online and Connections (formerly geschichte.transnational) can be subscribed to and managed via the “My Clio” service on the Clio-online specialist portal .

The list serves as a disciplinary information platform through which conference announcements, conference reports, journal tables of contents, scholarship and job advertisements, courses of study, accommodation offers, announcements of scientific events and other news for the historical sciences are made known.

H-Soz-Kult has a special profile through the published reviews . In August 2017 were on the site visible from H-Soz-u-Kult over 15,000 reviews. Further reviews of relevant new publications are published annually. More than 40 voluntary specialist editors, who are broadly positioned in epochal, thematic and regional terms, ensure that many sub-areas of historical research are covered. All reviews are also published quarterly as an electronically available review journal, Historische Literatur, in collaboration with Franz Steiner Verlag in Stuttgart.

Discussions about H-Soz-Kult usually take place in the context of main topics, the contributions of which are archived on the document server of the Humboldt University in the Historical Forum series .

The editorially supervised and also double-blind externally reviewed research reports offer a broad overview of the development of individual, dynamic research fields and place them in a broader professional context. They thus offer an orientation about a specific subject.

H-Soz-Kult is the official media partner of the Association of Historians of Germany .
