International Sociological Association

The International Sociological Association (ISA) is a society whose task it is to pursue scientific goals in the field of sociology and social sciences . It was founded in 1949 at the suggestion of UNESCO . Its members come from over 100 countries.

Goals and Organization

Their task is " to represent sociologists everywhere, regardless of their school of thought, scientific approaches or ideological opinion, and to advance sociological knowledge throughout the world ". She publishes the journal International Sociology (24th volume in 2009).

The ISA is a member of the International Social Science Council with the status of an NGO ( Non-Governmental Organization ), is associated with UNESCO and has advisor status to the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations .

President (since 2018) is the sociologist Sari Hanafi ( American University of Beirut , Lebanon ).

The ISA organizes a world sociological congress every four years, the last one taking place from July 15 to 21, 2018 under the title Power, Violence and Justice: Reflections, Responses and Responsibilities in Toronto.
