Robert Cooley Angell

Robert Cooley Angell (born April 29, 1899 in Detroit , Michigan ; † May 12, 1984 ) was an American sociologist and 41st President of the American Sociological Association and President of the International Sociological Association .

The son of Alexis Caswell Angell and nephew of Charles Cooley received his Ph.D. in 1924 after studying sociology at the University of Michigan. PhD. There he worked as a lecturer and from 1935 as a full professor. From 1940 to 1952 he was dean of the sociological faculty. In 1969 he retired .

In 1951 he served as President of the American Sociological Association , from 1953 to 1956 he was President of the International Sociological Association . Angell also worked for UNESCO .
