Joachim Scholtyseck
Joachim Scholtyseck (born August 18, 1958 in Bonn ) is a German historian . He teaches since 2001 as a professor for the history of the modern era at the University of Bonn .
Live and act
After graduating from high school and doing military service, Scholtyseck studied history, political science, art history and sociology at the University of Bonn from 1980. In 1991 he received his doctorate (with Klaus Hildebrand ), then from 1993 to 1999 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Karlsruhe , where he qualified as a professor in 1998 with a thesis on Robert Bosch and the liberal resistance to National Socialism . Also in 1998 Scholtyseck received the Baden-Württemberg State Teaching Prize . In 2001 he accepted an appointment at the University of Bonn, where he is a professor in the Department of Modern and Contemporary History (from 2010 to 2018 together with Dominik Geppert ).
Scholtyseck is a member of the advisory board of the “Research Center Resistance to National Socialism in the German Southwest” of the University of Karlsruhe, since 2004 deputy chairman of the “Research Foundation July 20, 1944”, since 2005 chairman of the board of trustees of the Wolf-Erich-Kellner Memorial Foundation for the award of the Wolf- Erich-Kellner Prize and since 2011 chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute for Contemporary History .
Scholtyseck's main research interests are the German Empire , Italian history in the 19th and 20th centuries, American history in the 20th century, fascism / National Socialism , the resistance to National Socialism , the Cold War , the foreign policy of the GDR as well as corporate and Banking history. In 2011 he presented the first company history of Freudenberg & Co. KG . He describes the development of the company from its beginnings to the early 1950s. With 14 of 19 chapters, the focus is on the time of National Socialism .
Alongside Eckart Conze , Dominik Geppert , Elke Seefried , Jürgen Frölich and Ewald Grothe, Scholtyseck has been the editor of the yearbook on research on liberalism , which is published on behalf of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom , since 2012 .
