KV Varadaraj

KV Varadaraj ( Kenchappa Varadaiah Varadaraj ; born May 7, 1924 in Mysore ; † December 20, 2011 in Basaveshwaranagar , Bangalore Urban ) was an Indian football goalkeeper .

Career

Varadaraj, nicknamed Six-Footer by the English press , completed three "big" tournaments with the Indian national team . He took part in the 1948 Summer Olympics with India , where he worked. Three years later at the Asian Games in New Delhi in 1951 , he won the gold medal with India. Also at the Summer Olympics in 1952 he was a member of the Indian squad led by Sailendra Nath Manna , but was not used.

Varadaraj played for Mysore FC in the 1940s and participated at club level in the Santosh Trophy competition between 1945 and 1949 , which he won with Mysore in 1946. He was also a player for Challenge Union Mysore , Mysore Railways , Bangalore Blues and Mohun Bagan AC . He ended his career at HMT . After his active time he also worked as a trainer for HMT and also as a referee.

Varadaraj, son of K. Varadaiah and Thimmakka, had two sons and two daughters. Other press reports speak of two sons and only one daughter and identify him as 89 years old at the time of his death.
