The Wolf Erich Kellner Memorial Foundation was set up in 1964 by his father Otto Kellner in memory of Wolf Erich Kellner . It has endowment capital of € 50,000 and is managed in trust by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom . The purpose of the foundation is to use the interest income or donations to reward a written work that deals “with the history or the spiritual foundations of liberalism in a scientifically valuable way”.

Wolf Erich Kellner Prize

The foundation has awarded the Wolf-Erich-Kellner Prize annually since 1966 . The science prize is awarded to work “which deals with the fundamentals, history and politics of liberalism in Germany, Europe and beyond in a scientifically valuable manner ”. Studies in the field of history, philosophy, politics, law, social or economic science that are at least 100 pages long are worthy of a prize. The award ceremony takes place at the Liberalism Colloquium of the Archives of Liberalism , which takes place every year between September and December.

The most renowned award winners include the historians Lothar Gall (1968), Dieter Langewiesche (1974), Hartwig Brandt (1986), Günther Heydemann (1992), Christian Jansen (1998), Jörn Leonhard (1999) and Elke Seefried (2009).

Board of Trustees

According to the 2004 statutes, the board of trustees consists of a minimum of seven and a maximum of twelve members. They are appointed for a period of six years by the board of trustees with the approval of the trustee. The members of the Board of Trustees work on a voluntary basis. The board of directors of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, the Board of Directors of the Society for Freedom - Friends and Supporters of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and the state board of the FDP Hessen are entitled to propose one member each . Fiduciary of the foundation is the head of the archive of liberalism Ewald Grothe .

The chairman of the board of trustees of the Wolf-Erich-Kellner-Gedächtnisstiftung is currently Joachim Scholtyseck (Bonn), his deputy Eckart Conze (Marburg).
