Ernst Wolfgang Becker

Ernst Wolfgang Becker (born July 27, 1966 in Kiel ) is a German historian and archivist .

Life

From 1988 to 1994 Becker studied history, philosophy and German in Passau , Tours and Tübingen , which he completed with the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools. In 1997 he was trained at the University of Tübingen in Modern History with Dieter Langewiesche with a study on “The time of revolution! - Revolution of the time? Experiences of Time in Germany in the Era of the Revolutions 1789–1848/49 ”. Subsequently, he completed a legal clerkship at the Saxon Main State Archives in Dresden until 1999 , which he completed with the archival state examination.

Becker has been working as a research assistant at the Federal President Theodor Heuss House Foundation in Stuttgart since July 1999 and has been its deputy managing director since 2002. His work focuses on the history of the 20th century, in particular the historical research on liberalism and the biography of Theodor Heuss , the scientific director of the edition “Theodor Heuss. Stuttgarter Ausgabe ”and looking after the foundation's archives.

Becker has been a member of the board of trustees of the Wolf-Erich-Kellner Memorial Foundation since 2019 .
