Werner Brans

Werner Brans (born January 8, 1929 in Wetzlar ; † October 22, 2007 ) was a German educator and politician ( FDP ).

Life and work

After attending high school, which was interrupted by his participation in World War II, and graduating from high school in 1947, Brans initially worked as a construction and factory worker. He then took up a degree in philology at the universities of Marburg , Munich and Frankfurt am Main , which he completed in 1953 with the state examination in German, history and philosophy. He worked as a trainee lawyer in Frankfurt since 1954, and received his doctorate in 1956 as a Dr. phil. and then entered the school service. From 1957 to 1961 he worked as a teacher in Biedenkopf , from 1962 to 1967 as a teacher in the international school service in Windhoek ( South West Africa ).

Political party

Brans joined the FDP in 1956 and was deputy chairman of the FDP district association in Wetzlar from 1970 to 1976 .

MP

Brans was from 1972 to 1975 and again in 1979 council member of the city ​​of Wetzlar . He was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 1970 until his resignation on December 14, 1978. Here he was from 1970 to 1978 deputy chairman of the FDP parliamentary group . He was a member of the 6th Federal Assembly for the election of the German Federal President in 1974 .

Public offices

From 1979 to 1984 Brans served as State Secretary in the Ministry for State Development, Environment, Agriculture and Forests in the social-liberal coalition government in the state of Hesse, led by Prime Minister Holger Börner (SPD) .

After the fall of the Wall , Brans went to Thuringia as a construction worker and worked there from 1990 to 1993 as State Secretary in the Ministry of Science and Art. In 1993/94 he worked as director of the Buchenwald Memorial .

Others

Brans was a member of the board of trustees of the Wolf-Erich-Kellner Memorial Foundation .
