Christian Jansen

Christian Jansen (born April 22, 1956 in Hamburg ) is a German modern historian and professor at the University of Trier . His work focuses on German and Italian history of the 19th and 20th centuries, in particular political history , social and mentality history .

Life

From 1974 Jansen studied history and mathematics at the University of Heidelberg . He did community service . In 1976/77 he worked as an AStA adviser. He passed the first state examination in 1981 . From 1981 to 1985 Jansen worked as an offset printer . From 1985 to 1989 he held a position as research assistant to Hartmut Soell at the Department of History at Heidelberg University, where he received his doctorate in 1989 . He then moved to the Ruhr University in Bochum as an assistant to Hans Mommsen and Norbert Frei, where he completed his habilitation in 1998 in innovation and modern history. After stations in Konstanz , Tübingen and Jerusalem , he worked as a university lecturer from 2000 and as an adjunct professor at the Ruhr University Bochum again from 2004 . From 2007 he taught as a visiting professor at the Technical University of Berlin .

From April 2012, Jansen held a W2 professorship for history of the 19th and 20th centuries at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . In the 2013/14 winter semester he took up a W3 professorship for modern and contemporary history (focus on the 19th century) at the University of Trier .

In 1998 Jansen was awarded the Wolf-Erich-Kellner Prize .
