Hartmut Soell
Hartmut Soell (born March 11, 1939 in Kehl ) is a German historian and politician ( SPD ).
Soell was a research assistant at Heidelberg University . In 1963 he received his doctorate there with the study The Social Democratic Labor Movement in the Reichsland Alsace-Lorraine 1871-1918 . His habilitation followed in 1974 , after which he was a full professor of modern history at the University of Heidelberg.
From 1965 to 1968 Soell was assistant to the SPD parliamentary group . From 1977 he was deputy chairman of the SPD district association in Heidelberg . From 1980 to 1994 he was a member of the German Bundestag . He was elected directly in the Heidelberg constituency in 1980 and entered parliament from 1984 on the Baden-Württemberg state list. From 1987 to 1991 he was also Vice President and 1992–93 President of the Assembly of the Western European Union and from 1991 to 1994 head of the German delegation.
