Thomas Hertfelder

Thomas Hertfelder (born September 13, 1959 in Ansbach ) is a German historian and managing director of the Federal President Theodor Heuss House Foundation in Stuttgart .

Live and act

Hertfelder studied history, German literature and political science at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich from 1979 to 1985 and passed the first state examination in 1985. From 1985 to 1987 he worked as a lecturer at the Goethe Institute in Munich and at the Adult Education Center in Munich , before he worked as a trainee lawyer and teacher at Munich grammar schools from 1987 to 1990 and passed the second state examination in 1989. From 1989 to 1997 he worked as a research assistant at the Institute for Bavarian History at the University of Munich. In 1995 he received his doctorate with a biography on the historian Franz Schnabel .

Hertfelder has been the founding director of the Federal President Theodor Heuss House Foundation in Stuttgart since 1997. Since 1999 he has been teaching at the Historical Institute of the University of Stuttgart . In 2010 he was elected deputy chairman of the board of the Federal President Theodor Heuss House Foundation.

Hertfelder's work focuses on the history of the Weimar Republic and the Federal Republic, the history of liberalism , historical image research and the culture of remembrance.

Hertfelder is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Forum Region Stuttgart , the Theodor Heuss Foundation eV Board of Trustees of the Theodor Heuss Foundation eV; Member of the scientific advisory board of the Office of the Federal President on the subject of "The Federal Presidents , the Office of the Federal President and National Socialism " and of the Places of Democratic History project in Bavaria. Until 2019 he was a member of the board of trustees of the Wolf-Erich-Kellner-Gedächtnisstiftung and the German-Turkish Forum Stuttgart .
