Jürgen Lillteicher

Jürgen Lillteicher (born May 8, 1968 in Enniger , Westphalia) is a German historian and former director of the Willy Brandt House in Lübeck . On March 1, 2018, he took over the management of the Allied Museum in Berlin.

Career

Lillteicher studied mathematics and history at the University of Freiburg and Trinity College (Dublin) from 1989 to 1996 . After passing the first state examination for higher teaching qualifications, he was a research assistant at the University of Freiburg and received his doctorate in 2000 on “The restitution of Jewish property in West Germany after the Second World War. A study of persecution experience, the rule of law and politics of the past 1945–1971 ”.

After completing his doctorate, he was a Fellow of the Charles H. Revson Foundation at the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC and a research assistant at the Bucerius Institute for Research of Contemporary German History and Society at the University of Haifa . From 2003 to 2006 he was a research assistant and curator at the Foundation Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin and worked on the conception of the exhibition “What Was Right Back then ... - Soldiers and Civilians Before Courts of the Wehrmacht”. In 2006 he worked at the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History and Culture at the University of Leipzig .

From 2007 to 2018 he was head of the Willy Brandt House in Lübeck.
