Together with Michael Wala, from 2011 to 2014, he examined the first 25 years of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution 1950–1975, paying particular attention to the Nazi references of former employees in the founding phase.

His work deals primarily with dealing with the consequences of war and violence, with the relationship between security, public and secret, but also with the role of science and science popularization for modern societies.
