Michael Wala

Michael Wala (born June 6, 1954 in Hamburg ) is a German historian .

Life

Wala completed his studies at the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics , which he graduated in 1978 with a degree in economics. 1982 followed by the Master of Arts, History, at the University of Wisconsin – Madison . In 1988 he received his doctorate from the University of Hamburg . In 1996 he completed his habilitation at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . From 1988 to 2000 he worked as a university assistant and senior assistant at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1991/1992 he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University , and in 1997 a visiting scholar at the Hoover Institution of Stanford University. In April 1999 he was an exchange professor at the University of Wales in Swansea . In 2000 he held the chair for Anglo-American History at the Department of History at the University of Cologne . In 2000/2001 a visiting professorship followed at St. Olaf College , Northfield (Minnesota) , USA. From 2002 to 2004 he was professor for American cultural history at the America Institute of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . Since 2004 he has been teaching as professor for North American history at the Ruhr University Bochum .
