Jürgen Fohrmann (* 1953 in Bielefeld ) is a German literary scholar .

Fohrmann is a university professor for modern German literature and was rector at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn from April 23, 2009 to April 29, 2015 .

He specializes in literary and media theory , the history of culture and science as well as literature from the 18th to 20th centuries and has published on problems of literary historiography and rhetoric from a discourse-analytical perspective, among other things . In addition, Fohrmann has appeared on various occasions as the editor of anthologies, including on cultural studies and the possibilities of system-theoretical literary studies .

Life

Fohrmann studied literature, German and history from 1972 to 1977 at the University of Münster . From 1979 to 1983 he was employed as a research assistant at Bielefeld University , where he received his doctorate in 1980 and qualified as a professor in 1988 . Since 1991 he has been Professor of Modern German Literature and General Literary Studies at the University of Bonn. From 1994 to 1997 he was President of the German Association of Germanists .

From 2006 to 2008 Fohrmann was Dean of the Philosophical Faculty. On December 1st, 2008 he was elected Rector by the University Council of Bonn University . This election was confirmed by the University Senate on December 11th. On April 23, 2009, Fohrmann was officially appointed 142nd rector of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität for the next six years. Fohrmann did not run for a second term.
