German Society for Political Science
The German Society for Political Science (DGfP) is a political science professional association.
history
The DGfP was founded on February 23, 1983 by the former chairman of the German Association for Political Science (DVPW) Manfred Hättich and the political scientists Werner Link , Dieter Oberndörfer , Alexander Schwan , Hans-Peter Schwarz , Klaus Kröger, Hella Mandt, Karl Schmitt, dem Sociologist Theodor Hanf and the lawyer Hermann Avenarius . The reason for the foundation was the split in the DVPW, above all over the question of the membership concept of a scientific association and the self-image of the subject. While the DVPW was basically open to all graduates and in the 1970s also considered accepting students, the DGfP limited itself to university professors and doctoral candidates.
The DGfP tends to have more members with conservative or right-wing liberal attitudes, although membership - and assumption of functions - was always possible for scientists from any political background. The political contrasts of the early years were u. a. minimized by the active board work of Ernst-Otto Czempiel , Jürgen Gebhardt and Gesine Schwan .
The society currently has over 200 members, including a. Political scientists, constitutional law experts, sociologists and historians as well as representatives of other related disciplines.
Supporting members are the Verlag CH Beck , the Nomos Verlag and Springer VS .
