Theodor Hanf

Theodor Hanf (born March 20, 1936 in Düsseldorf ) is a German political scientist and sociologist . His research and publications primarily concern the Middle East and Africa . From 1972 to 2006 he was director of the renowned Arnold Bergstraesser Institute in Freiburg im Breisgau .

Life

Theodor Hanf was born on March 20, 1936. He studied political science , sociology and education in Bonn , Freiburg and Beirut . In 1966, hemp was awarded a Dr. phil. PhD. Since 1973 he has been honorary professor of political science at the University of Freiburg. From 1972 to 2006 he was director of the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute in Freiburg, together with Dieter Oberndörfer , and from 1972 to 2004 Professor of Sociology at the German Institute for International Educational Research in Frankfurt am Main. Hemp has been visiting professor at the American University of Beirut since 2004 .

Theodor Hanf is a recognized Middle East expert due to his numerous publications on the Arab world and especially Lebanon . He is regularly interviewed or questioned by German and international press organs about the Middle East conflict .
