Nikolaus Werz

Nikolaus Werz (born July 15, 1952 in Bonn ) is a German political scientist .

Life

Nikolaus Werz is the son of the former German ambassador to Argentina, Luitpold Werz . He obtained the general university entrance qualification in 1971 in Buenos Aires . He then studied German , history and political science at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and passed the state examination in 1970.

From 1978 Werz worked at the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute . A research stay took him to the Institute for Development Studies in Venezuela . In 1983 he was awarded a doctoral scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation for Dr. phil. (Dissertation: Political Parties, State and Development in Venezuela ) PhD. From 1981 to 1991 he worked on third-party funded projects for the Fritz Thyssen Foundation . In 1991 he completed his habilitation with the thesis The newer political and social science thinking in Latin America . Subsequently, he was a professor in Freiburg im Breisgau. Since 1994 he has held the chair for Comparative Government Studies at the University of Rostock .

Werz is a member of several associations, he was a. a. from 1992 to 1996 member of the selection committee of the Catholic Academic Foreigners Service (KAAD). In 2004 he was appointed to the board of the Loki Schmidt Foundation . From 2005 to 2007 he was chairman of the German Society for Political Science (DGfP).
