Karl Rohe

Karl Rohe (born November 25, 1934 in Löningen ; † June 21, 2005 ) was a German political scientist and rector of the University of Essen .

Research area

Rohe dealt in particular with the political system of Great Britain , party research and the political cultural research that was largely shaped by him .

Scientific career

Rohe studied in Freiburg im Breisgau and Münster . He became a member of Catholic student associations in the KV , in Freiburg with the KStV Neuenfels, in Münster with the KStV Germania. After receiving his doctorate in 1964 in Münster as Dr. phil. researched Rohe from 1965 to 1967 as a fellow of the German Research Foundation at St Antony's College in Oxford . Subsequently, Rohe was a research associate at the University of Münster . In 1969 he was appointed to a chair for political science at the Ruhr University of Education , which was merged into the University of Essen in 1972 .

In 1987/88 he returned to St Antony's College for a visiting professorship . From 1990 to 1992 he set up the social sciences department at the University of Potsdam , for which he received an honorary doctorate in 1994 . 1995 Rohe became chairman of the German Society for Political Science .

University policy

Rohe was a member of the founding senate of the University of Essen from 1972 to 1982. From October 1996 until his retirement on April 1, 2000 he was rector of the University of Essen.
