Klaus Dicke
Klaus Dicke (born December 1, 1953 in Koblenz-Rübenach ) is a German political scientist and was Rector of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena (FSU) from 2004 to 2014 .
Life
After studying political science , history , Catholic theology and philosophy in Marburg and Tübingen , he worked as a research assistant in the human rights research project at the University of Tübingen from 1979–1983. Subsequently he was an academic advisor at the Institute for International Law at the University of Kiel until 1992 . He took over professorships in Berlin and Mainz and later received calls to Mainz (1994) and Jena (1995). Since the summer semester 1995, Dicke has been a professor at the FSU Jena.
From 1996 to 1998 he was a member and since 2004 director of the Institute for Political Science. In 1999/2000 prorector of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He has been a member of the Senate's Research Committee since 2003. In 2004, Klaus Dicke was elected Rector of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena, and in May 2008 he was re-elected to this position by the University Council. His second term began on September 1, 2008 and lasted six years. His successor since October 2014 is the pharmacologist Walter Rosenthal as the first president of the FSU.
Dickes's research focuses on the history of political ideas, especially in the modern era (research project "Historical Political Science in Thuringia" 1997/1998). Furthermore, he deals with human rights: history, rationale and politics (research project “History of the impact of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights”, 1998/00). Other areas of focus are the political philosophy of the democratic constitutional state, the United Nations, international law and politics in globalization.
In December 2014, Dicke was brought into play as a non-party CDU candidate in a possible third ballot for the Thuringian Prime Minister, as the opponent of the left Bodo Ramelow . Ramelow, however, was elected in the second ballot.
