Eberhard Sandschneider (* 1955 ) is a German political scientist and East Asia expert.

Eberhard Sandschneider completed his studies in English, Classical Philology and Political Science at Saarland University in 1981 . In 1986 he received his doctorate on the topic of his dissertation Military and Politics in the People's Republic of China, 1969–1985 . In 1993 he completed his habilitation with the thesis on stability and transformation of political systems . From 1995 to 1998 he taught as professor for international relations at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . Sandschneider has been professor of political science, with a focus on Chinese politics and international relations, at the Free University of Berlin since 1998 . From October 1999 to March 2001 he was Managing Director of the Otto Suhr Institute . Between 2003 and 2016 he was also " Otto Wolff Director" of the Research Institute of the German Society for Foreign Policy .

His main research interests are German foreign policy, transatlantic relations, international relations in the Asia-Pacific region , comparative transformation research and the political systems of China and Taiwan. In his work he repeatedly deals with the decline of Europe and the rise of China. Sandschneider is a member of the Journalists Network Board of Trustees . Since September 2012 he has been a member of the 6th Advisory Board of the Federal Academy for Security Policy . Sandschneider is a partner in the “Berlin Global Advisors” consulting institute.
