Journalists Network eV ( spelling journalists.network ; jn) is an association that organizes research trips for journalists up to the age of 35 on a voluntary basis . The seat and management are in Berlin. The association is non-partisan and non-profit and does not pursue any religious, economic or ideological interests. The association organizes press conferences, exchange programs and research trips, especially in emerging and developing countries. In this way, he wants to promote the international skills of young local journalists, network journalists around the world and contribute to international understanding .

The association was founded in 1995 by journalists Jörg Allgäuer and Michael Anthony. There has been an alumni program since 2005.

Research trips

Around sixty trips to all continents have been organized since it was founded, mainly to China, Russia, Israel, the Philippines, Turkey and Argentina. As a rule, ten participants take part in the trips, these came from media such as Süddeutsche Zeitung , SPIEGEL , Deutschlandfunk , but also from regional media such as WDR , Münchner Merkur or Stuttgarter Zeitung .

During the trips there were meetings with politicians Chen Shui-bian , Helen Zille , Shimon Peres , Nobel Peace Prize laureate Adolfo Perez Esquivel , environmental journalist Grigori Mikhailovich Pasko , oligarch Alexander Lebedev and former Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mikhailovich Kassyanov .

Press briefings

There were press meetings with correspondents for the BBC , the French newspaper Liberation and the Russian broadcaster NTW-Moscow . Also with the media scientist Adel Iskander , with Rakel Dink, the widow of the murdered Turkish journalist Hrant Dink , and with the foreign journalist Michael Obert . There were also meetings with the politicians Volker Rühe , Bernd Mützelburg , Ruprecht Polenz and Gernot Erler .

In the summer of 2011, the association organized three panels on foreign journalism for the first time at the annual meeting of Netzwerk Recherche .

The association has a board of six . The chairman is Max Kuball. The board coordinates the research trips, which are mostly organized on a voluntary basis by two young journalists. There is also an advisory board. Members of the board of trustees are Tina Hassel , Bascha Mika , Wilm Herlyn , Josef Joffe Peter Kloeppel , Giovanni di Lorenzo , Jörg Sadrozinski, Patricia Schlesinger and Eberhard Sandschneider .

financing

Since the beginning, the association has been dependent on sponsors in order to be able to carry out the trips. The sponsors are companies, especially airlines, but also foundations, aid organizations and individuals. Each trip must be financed by at least two donors as well as participation fees. In order to ensure journalistic independence, the sponsors have no influence on the planning of the trips. Sponsors include the Protestant Development Service , the Metro Group , the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung , the Robert Bosch Stiftung and Volkswagen .
