Wilm Herlyn

Wilm Herlyn (born January 21, 1945 in Bielefeld ) is a German political scientist and journalist . From 1991 to 2009 he was editor-in-chief of the German Press Agency (dpa) .

Life

Herlyn first grew up in Nordhausen . In 1966 he passed the Abitur at the Söderblom-Gymnasium in Espelkamp . At the Julius Maximilians University of Würzburg he began to study philosophy , history , political science and communication studies. In 1967 he became active in the Corps Rhenania Würzburg . He moved to the Paris-Lodron University of Salzburg and the Free University of Berlin . There he also joined the Corps Guestphalia Berlin in 1968 . He later laid down the Westphalia ribbon.

After a traineeship at Die Welt in Hamburg , he became editor in their Berlin office in 1972 , later head of the German editorial team and head of duty . From 1986 to 1987 he was managing editor at Bunten, responsible for politics, economics and contemporary history. From 1987 to 1990 he was deputy editor-in-chief of the Rheinische Post in Düsseldorf . In 1991 he moved to the dpa German Press Agency as its editor-in-chief in Hamburg. In 2009 the dpa supervisory board approved the plans presented by Herlyn to concentrate all central editorial units in Berlin. After his retirement in January 2010, he became involved in training young journalists. He is married to his second marriage and has two children from his first marriage.
