from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow (CFACT or CfaCT for short; in German Komitee für ein Konstruktives Morgen ) is an American lobby organization that has a subsidiary in Europe, CfaCT Europe, founded in 2004 and based in Jena (Thuringia, Germany).

CFACT is considered to be one of the actors of the organized climate denial scene , which publicly denies both man-made global warming and the consequences of global warming and is financially supported in its lobbying work by the oil industry , among others .

According to its own statements, the committee tries to develop market-based solutions for ecological problems. It declares itself to be an alternative to Greenpeace because of its economically liberal methodology .

The CfaCT is based in Washington, DC and is a private, non-profit organization under US law. According to its tax return, the CfaCT has donation-based revenue of approximately $ 2.5 million per year that is entirely from private donations. The CfaCT has stated that it has never taken government money. The website Climate Depot belongs to CfaCT and is operated by the publicist Marc Morano .

Criticism of sources of money

The CfaCT is criticized by environmentalists for being financed by donations from US lobby groups and think tanks and for being represented on advisory boards by former employees of the coal industry, for example. From 1998 to 2007, the CfaCT received a total of approximately $ 600,000 from the oil company ExxonMobil . In 2010, the CfaCT received about 1.28 million US dollars, about 45% of its budget, from the Donors Trust, an organization that anonymously transfers donations, for example funds from a foundation affiliated with Koch Industries , to organizations.

CFACT Europe and EIKE

The CFACT Europe is a membership association based in Jena. The chairman of this association, founded by the Jena historian Holger Thuss , is Günther Fehlinger. Holger Thuß is the chairman of the European Institute for Climate and Energy (EIKE), an association that denies man-made climate change. Both clubs shared the same mailbox address. According to a Guardian report , CFACT Europe received financial support from the US organization.
