Volker Lilienthal

Volker Lilienthal (born April 24, 1959 in Minden , Westphalia ) is a German university professor and journalist . Since July 2009 he has been professor for “Quality Journalism Practice” at the University of Hamburg .

Life

Lilienthal studied journalism and modern German literature. He graduated in 1983 from the University of Dortmund with a degree in journalism. At the University of Siegen , he was at Helmut Kreuzer 1987 Dr. phil. PhD in German Studies; his topic was literary criticism as political reading , i.e. the question of how political sympathies or antipathies influence the value judgment of literary criticism.

From 1989 Lilienthal worked as an editor for the Evangelical Press Service (epd). Since 1997 he has been deputy head of the news service "epd medien" and since 2005 also the editor in charge. From 1996 to 1998 he also wrote columns for the Hamburg weekly newspaper “ Die Zeit ”.

Between 1999 and 2004 he was active as a lecturer in media criticism and media journalism at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University . Lilienthal is a member of the jury for the Adolf Grimme Prize , the Robert Geisendörfer Prize and the Otto Brenner Prize and has been a member of the jury for the Hessischer Rundfunk audio book top list since 1997 .

In 2005 he covered surreptitious advertising in the ZDF series “ Sabine! "And in the ARD series" Marienhof ".

In the 2007/08 winter semester he represented the Rudolf Augstein Endowed Professorship for Quality Journalism at the University of Hamburg, to which he was appointed for the 2009/10 winter semester.

He lives in Berlin and Hamburg.
