coat of arms
Blazon : "In silver, a blue wine jug with a bow between two red wine ladders."
The Gau-Weinheim coat of arms was introduced in 1982 by a resolution of the Gau-Weinheim local council. |
|
Justification for the coat of arms: It goes back to court seals handed down from 1536 and 1596. Even then, the wine jug in the form of a wine jug was a heraldic seldom seen motif, while the wine ladders in today's coat of arms were replaced by two wine trees. Both symbols point to viticulture as the main branch of the economy and are at the same time a talking symbol for the place name. |
Culture and sights
Buildings
- In the so-called community tower , a fortified tower from the Middle Ages , the place still has an old corner tower of the fortified cemetery that formerly surrounded the church. In 1749 it was converted into a bell tower. It used to serve as a bell tower for both denominations , while today it only houses the parish bell. The special thing about it is that it gradually leans to one side - and based on the one in Pisa - today it is called the "leaning tower". In 1991 the community tower was renovated. The masonry, concrete and securing work cost DM 96,278 . The "civil ringing" was reintroduced. Since August 1, 1991, the church bells in the parish tower have been ringing at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., except on Sundays and public holidays .
