Flomborn Pig

Bronze pig

The monument was placed on the leanest pig in the village.

The people of Flomborn found the slaughter animal tax levied by the occupiers after the Second World War to be too high. This release was measured in terms of live weight. When it was the turn of the pigs, the villagers weighed the same pig each time until it performed the procedure almost independently. The pig was the leanest in the whole village, so the taxes were very low. The collectors are said not to have noticed anything and the villagers were so happy that they later decided to erect a memorial to this "pig" on the market square.

A song of the carnival season known in the village tells of this story:

“And
if somebody wants to slaughter someone, there is a big malör, where can I get a pig,
mine is much too heavy.
And secretly everyone borrows the same thin pig, she
runs to the scales all by herself and doesn't make any noise either. "

The Turn- und Sportverein 1897 eV Flomborn is the local sports and football club. The founding meeting with 58 founding members took place on July 28, 1897.

From 1947 to 1976 i. R. Eppelsheim, Mühlweg, the company Farbenschmidt GmbH (subsidiary of Druckfarbenfabriken Gebr. Schmidt GmbH, Frankfurt a. M.). With up to 100 employees, it was the largest employer in the area. The entire production building burned down in summer 2008.

There is a supermarket of the Netto Marken-Discount chain in Flomborn . It is the only supermarket in the vicinity.
