Wendelsheim is a municipality in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wöllstein .
geography
The Wendelsheim wine-growing community is located in the largest wine-growing district in Germany and in the middle of the Rheinhessen wine-growing region . The Wiesbach and Finkenbach (Wiesbach) flow through Wendelsheim .
history
Wendelsheim ( Wendilsheim ) was first mentioned in a document in 766 in the Lorsch Codex (other sources refer to a deed of donation for the Fulda monastery from 841). Celtic finds, however, show settlements in prehistoric times. As with all places in the region with the ending "-heim" it is likely to be a Franconian settlement.
Wendelsheim was probably one of the oldest holdings of the wild counts . It is believed that it belonged to the official property with which the Emichons as sub- counts of the Salians were endowed. Since 1370 there were demonstrably manorial rights of the Count Palatine Ruprecht I to Wendelsheim. Around 1380 the place was pledged to Count Palatine Ruprecht the Young and from 1438 to 1452 to Count Palatine Ludwig IV .
In 1398 and 1409 Wendelsheim was a feudal fief of the Rhine Count Johann von Dhaun zu Rheingrafenstein . Medieval sources describe the Count of Dhaun as the highest Vogt and legal lord of the village and the district of Wendelsheim.
From 1475 until the French Revolution, Wendelsheim was under the rule of the Counts of Salm (see Rheingrafen ).
As a result of the Congress of Vienna , Wendelsheim came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1816 . After the Second World War, the place was finally assigned to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate .
Church history
Through the "Wörrstädter Union" in 1822, all Rheinhessen parishes were uniate confession, i. H. the Protestant churches (the Lutheran and the Reformed ), which previously existed independently side by side , merged to form the " Evangelical Church".

Reasons for the coat of arms: There are three references in the Wendelsheim coat of arms: the lion of the Wild and Rhine Counts, the two Salme (fish) of the Counts of Salm and the silver bar of the Lords of Vinstingen (today Fénétrange ) on a blue background . |
