Gau-Bickelheim is a municipality in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Verbandsgemeinde Wöllstein .
Geographical location
Gau-Bickelheim is located south of the Wißberg in the Rheinhessen hill country . Alzey is about 10 kilometers south-east and Bad Kreuznach is about 8 kilometers west . The Rhineland-Palatinate state capital Mainz is located 20 kilometers northeast of Gau-Bickelheim .
Neighboring communities are Gau-Weinheim , Wallertheim , Badenheim and Sprendlingen .
history
Gau-Bickelheim first appears in a document in 1128 under the name "Beckelnheim". Later place names were "Gaubeckelnheim" (1314), "Gaubekilnheim" (1329), "Gaubecklinheim" (1355), "Gawbickelheim" (1515), "Gauböckelheim" (1815).

Local mayor is Jürgen Vollmer (Gau-Bickelheim voter group). In the local elections on May 26, 2019, he was elected with a share of 79.46% of the vote, making him the successor to Friedel Janz (CDU), who was no longer running.

The coat of arms is divided. In the larger upper part there are three red dexels (or heels ) on a silver background . In the lower third the silver Mainz wheel on a red background.

The federal highway 420 runs through the village . The federal highway 61 leads northwest to southeast past it. The Gau-Bickelheim junction (No. 52) is not located directly on the B 420, but can be reached via federal road 50 . The junction is very spacious and is reminiscent of half an autobahn clover , as in the original plans the federal autobahn 60 should have crossed the A 61 here. In the mid-1990s, a truck stop was built near them .
The Gau Bickelheim stop is on the Worms – Bingen Stadt railway line and is served every hour. The Bingen city train station can be reached by regional train in approx. 20 minutes, Worms central station in approx. 45 minutes.
