geography

history

Bechenheim was first mentioned in 824 in the deed of the Fulda monastery .

From the 16th to the end of the 18th century, the place belonged to the Electoral Palatinate and was subject to the administration and jurisdiction of the Alzey District Office .

In 1794, Bechenheim and the entire Left Bank of the Rhine were occupied by French revolutionary troops. From 1798 to 1814 Bechenheim belonged to the canton of Alzey in the French department of Donnersberg . Bechenheim was assigned to the Mairie Niederwiesen .

Due to the agreements reached at the Congress of Vienna in 1815 and a state treaty concluded in 1816 between Hesse , Austria and Prussia , the region, including the municipality of Bechenheim, became part of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and was assigned to the province of Rheinhessen . After the dissolution of the Rhine-Hessian cantons, the place came in 1835 to the newly established Alzey district , to which it belonged until 1969.
