Freimersheim is a municipality in the Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Alzey-Land association.
Geographical location
The community is a wine-growing place in Rheinhessen , about three kilometers southwest of Alzey . Freimersheim is located at the source of the Weidasserbach.
Freimersheim has its own train station with hourly traffic in the direction of Mainz and Frankfurt am Main as well as a motorway connection to the federal motorway 63 . There are regular bus connections to Alzey.
history
In 763 Freimersheim is mentioned for the first time in a document from the Lorsch Monastery . The name is derived from Frimâr, "home / settlement of the Frimâr and his clan". Belonging to the Alzey office , Freimersheim was owned by the Electoral Palatinate from the High Middle Ages to the French Revolution .
At times the place was called Freimersheim behind the control room to differentiate between the same and similar place names .
After the end of the Second World War , many refugees from the east settled here, especially Silesians .
In 2003, after long debates within the administration, Freimersheim finally received a sewer system, which was completed at the end of 2007.

The local council in Freimersheim consists of twelve council members, who were elected in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote, and the honorary local mayor as chairman.

In the local elections on May 26, 2019, Jacques Garrido was elected with 71.76% of the vote. He is the successor to Wilfried Brück, who did not take up office after 15 years.

Buildings
Two listed churches belong to Freimersheim, the Catholic Church of St. Joseph with a choir tower from the 12th century and a fortified cemetery and the Protestant church (1724) with a Stumm organ . Another small attraction is a rustic wooden house, a replica of the original Freimersheim half-timbered houses, which was built in the late 1990s. The interior work has not yet been fully completed. You can also visit a well-preserved water reservoir from the 19th century, which is located on a hill next to the train tracks and has been restored by private individuals since 2006.

Sports
In addition to a sports field, Freimersheim has a hiking area. The football club "TV Freimersheim" with around 300 members is active in youth work.
