The Finkenbach is a 7.4 km long orographically left tributary of the Wiesbach in the Rheinhessen Switzerland , which belongs to the German state Rhineland-Palatinate .

geography

The source of the Finkenbach is located in the south of Mörsfeld in the depression between Monzfelder Hübel in the north, Schwarzer Hübel in the west and Märmelstein in the south at an altitude of about 320  m above sea level. NHN . From here the stream first flows east. After a short run, the Kriegsbach , which comes from the south and which has covered the longer stretch of the river to the mouth, flows on the right .

Below the mouth, the Finkenbach turns its course to the north. To the east of Mörsfeld, the Schindelbach, coming from the village, flows on the left . In the lower reaches, the L404 road accompanies the river. After the stream has flowed through the village of Wendelsheim , it flows into the northeastern edge of the village at 168  m above sea level. NHN on the left in the Wiesbach.

On its 7.4 km long path, the Finkenbach overcomes a difference in altitude of 168 m, which corresponds to an average bed gradient of 22.7 ‰. It drains an 18.053 km² catchment area via Wiesbach, Nahe and Rhine into the North Sea and thus belongs to the river system of the Rhine.

environment

The Finkenbach is a carbonate middle mountain stream rich in fine material. Its water structure quality is predominantly given as clearly changed (quality class IV), in the lower reaches near Wendelsheim as completely changed (quality class VII). Only a few sections before Weißenstein and between Pfaffenloch and Finkenmühle are classified as moderately changed (quality class III). The water quality of the Finkenbach is classified as moderately polluted for the entire course (quality class II). (Status: 2005)
