District of Vöhl

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The district of Vöhl was a district in the Grand Duchy of Hesse and its province of Upper Hesse with its seat in Vöhl and existed from 1821 to 1832. In 1832 it was formally part of the Biedenkopf district .

Geographical location

In its relationship to the rest of the Grand Duchy, the district of Vöhl was shaped by the fact that it formed an exclave in the far north of the country. It was largely surrounded by the Principality of Waldeck , only to the south it bordered the Electorate of Hesse . In addition, it consisted of three completely separate areas that did not border each other: the central area around Vöhl and the two exclaves Höringhausen and Eimelrod .

history

founding

The district council was established in 1821 when the Itter office was renamed and its jurisdiction tasks were transferred to the newly formed Vöhl district court . This happened in the course of an administrative reform in the Grand Duchy, in which generally all offices were dissolved and jurisdiction and administration were separated .

Further development

In a further administrative reform in 1832, the administrative districts were combined into districts. The district of Vöhl merged with the districts of Battenberg and Gladenbach in the new district of Biedenkopf .

Due to the remote location of the district of Vöhl , this reform was not really carried out. It retained a special status and was not fully integrated into the Biedenkopf district. Rather, the previous district administrator continued to serve and received the title of "district administrator".

The End

This construct was lost in the March Revolution of 1848, when only administrative districts were established across the whole of the Grand Duchy as the middle level between the state government and the municipalities. This regional reform was reversed after the victory of the restorative forces in the reaction era in 1852 and an independent district of Vöhl was created.
