The district of Herbstein (from 1825: District of Lauterbach ) was a district in the Grand Duchy of Hesse in the province of Upper Hesse . It existed from 1821 to 1848.

history

Emergence

In the course of the administrative reform of 1821 in the Grand Duchy, jurisdiction and administration were also separated at the lower level , and the tasks of the traditional offices were reorganized in district districts - responsible for administration - and district court districts - responsible for jurisdiction. The district of Herbstein arose predominantly from offices that belonged to the "sovereign lands", areas that had previously belonged to the Riedesel rule , in which the Riedesel family still held part of the sovereign rights and the state only had limited control over them. The Herbstein District District consisted of the following former offices:

The newly established Lauterbach and Altenschlirf regional courts performed the tasks of the court of first instance in this district .

Further development

By announcement of July 5, 1825, the seat of the district administrator was relocated from Herbstein to Lauterbach and the name was changed to the district of Lauterbach .

During the territorial reform of 1832, when district districts were merged into districts in the Dominiallanden , the lordly dominated district of Lauterbach was left out. It existed unchanged until the March Revolution .

The End

The March Revolution in 1848 abolished the prerogatives of the class lords, which opposed the state monopoly on power and jurisdiction. Furthermore, the existing regional structure of the administration was smashed, the administrative district Herbstein part of the newly established administrative district Alsfeld . When the state apparently restored the pre-revolutionary conditions in the subsequent reaction era in 1852, it ensured that the sovereign rights of the rulers that had come to the state through the revolution remained with the state. For example, the Lauterbach district was re-established in the area of the former Herbstein district administration - with the addition of the Schlitz district court district - analogous to the state structure in the rest of the country.
