Hopfmannsfeld is a district of the Lautertal community in the Vogelsbergkreis in central Hesse .
Geographical location
Hopfmannsfeld is located on the Vogelsberg in the "Hoher Vogelsberg" nature reserve. State road 3139 runs south of the village .
history
The village belonged to the Hersfeld Abbey . The oldest known written mention of Hopfmannsfeld took place in 1276 under the name Holsmannesfeld . This place name means "the place where the wood man (wood cutter, wood artist) lives".
Until 1629, Hopfmannsfeld belonged to the Engelrod parish . The Reformation was introduced in this parish in 1527.
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Hopfmannsfeld in 1830:
"Hopfmannsfeld (L. Bez. Lauterbach) evangel. Parish village; lies in the Vogelsberg, 2 St. from Lauterbach, and belongs to the Baron von Riedesel. There are 57 houses and 304 Protestant residents, as well as 1 mill. The inhabitants are very busy with flax spinning, but only do it in winter. - The former court of Hopfmannsfeld initially belonged to the Hersfeld Abbey, from which the Counts of Orlamünde were enfeoffed with this court. But in 1287 Hermann von Orlamünde announced this fiefdom to the abbey in favor of Gerlach von Breuberg, which gave rise to protracted disputes between the Breubergers and Eisenbachers as they were wealthy here. After the Breubergers died out and the Eppensteiners took their place, they sold these properties to the Eisenbachers in 1333, and in 1351 finally without further reservation. "
Hopfmannsfeld was an independent municipality until 1972. On February 1, 1972, Hopfmannsfeld was incorporated into the newly formed community of Lautertal as part of the regional reform in Hesse .
Church with rectory
The first church is recorded in 1596 . It was demolished in 1731 because of dilapidation and replaced by a new church - built in 1733/34, last renovated in 1989. The baptismal font inside the Protestant church dates from 1632.

Courts since 1803
In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or landlords and thus the "Patrimonial Court of the Barons Riedesel zu Eisenbach" in Engelrod was responsible for Hopfmannsfeld from 1806. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The second instance for the patrimonial courts were the civil law firms. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .
With the founding of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance 1821–1822 were transferred to the newly created regional and city courts as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. For this, the stately " Lauterbach Regional Court " was created, which was now responsible for Hopfmannsfeld. It was only as a result of the March Revolution of 1848 that the special civil rights were finally abolished with the “Law on the Relationships of Classes and Noble Court Lords” of April 15, 1848. In the course of the reorganization of the judicial districts in the province of Upper Hesse carried out in 1853 , the seat of the district court was to be relocated from Altenschlirf to Herbstein and its district was to be expanded to include the villages of Dirlammen , Eichelhain , Eichenrod , Engelrod , Hörgenau , Hopfmannsfeld and Lanzenhain , which had previously belonged to the Lauterbach district court However, both of these did not take effect until September 1, 1854.
On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Amtsgericht Herbstein" and assigned to the district of the regional court of Giessen .
On July 1, 1957, the Herbstein District Court lost its independence and finally became a branch of the Lauterbach District Court after it was already at the end of the Second World War . On July 1, 1968, this branch was also closed. On January 1, 2005, the Lauterbach District Court was repealed as a full court and became a branch of the Alsfeld District Court . On January 1, 2012, this branch was also closed. Now the superordinate instances are the regional court of Giessen , the higher regional court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.
