history

The name Engelrod is possibly the derivation of a clearing by the settler Angilo . The oldest known written mention of Engelrod took place in 1287 under the name Engelrodt .

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Engelrod in 1830:

"Engelrod (L. Bez. Lauterbach) evangel. Parish village; is located in Vogelsberg 3 St. von Lauterbach, and belongs to the Baron von Riedesel. The place has 76 houses, 484 inhabitants, who are Protestant apart from 2 Catholics, 1 church and 3 grinding mills. A significant amount of field produce can be exported annually. - This place is commemorated for the first time in 1287; the parish set belonged to the Hersfeld Abbey. A hailstorm on June 28, 1829 completely destroyed all field products. "

A water pipe was laid in 1904.

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality Lautertal was newly formed on December 31, 1971 through the merger of the previous municipalities Eichelhain, Eichenrod, Engelrod, Hörgenau and Meiches. On February 1, 1972 Dirlammen and Hopfmannsfeld were added. On February 1, 1980, the name of the municipality was officially changed to Lautertal (Vogelsberg) .

Church history

An older church building had to be demolished in 1847 because it was in disrepair. In 1854 the new church was inaugurated. The parish Engelrod also includes Hörgenau, Eichenrod, Eichelhain and Rebgeshain.

In May 1805 members of the Wetterau gang , namely Ludwig Funk , known as the Selnröder Ludwig, and his cronies Peter Görzel, commonly known as Heiden = Peter, Kaspar Huthmann, Johannes Lehn II and Johannes Köddinger, robbed Kaspar Gemmer's shepherd's hut at the Petershainer Hof . The robber had upon arrest in Engelrod in a shepherd house two guns, a pocket pistol also powder and lead, a horn cast with the letter G, which they had stolen Gemmer the Shepherd. Items were also found that the five robbers had stolen from a break-in in Sellnrod shortly before. While radio ins after casting prison was brought, it remitted the remaining six weeks of detention of Riedesel's country.

Territorial history and administration

The following list gives an overview of the territories in which Engelrod was located and the administrative units to which it was subordinate:

Courts since 1803

In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or landlords and thus from 1806 the "Patrimonial Court of the Barons Riedesel zu Eisenbach" in Engelrod was responsible for Engelrod. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The second instance for the patrimonial courts were the civil law firms. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .

With the founding of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance 1821–1822 were transferred to the newly created regional and city courts as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. For this, the stately " Lauterbach Regional Court " was created. It was only as a result of the March Revolution of 1848 that the special civil rights were finally abolished with the “Law on the Relationships of Classes and Noble Court Lords” of April 15, 1848. In the course of the reorganization of the judicial districts in the province of Upper Hesse carried out in 1853 , the seat of the regional court was to be relocated from Altenschlirf to Herbstein and its district was to be expanded to include the towns of Dirlammen , Eichelhain , Eichenrod , Engelrod, Hörgenau , Hopfmannsfeld and Lanzenhain , which had previously belonged to the Lauterbach regional court district However, both of these did not take effect until September 1, 1854.

On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Amtsgericht Herbstein" and assigned to the district of the regional court of Giessen .

On July 1, 1957, the Herbstein District Court lost its independence and finally became a branch of the Lauterbach District Court after it was already at the end of the Second World War . On July 1, 1968, this branch was also closed. On January 1, 2005, the Lauterbach District Court was repealed as a full court and became a branch of the Alsfeld District Court . On January 1, 2012, this branch was also closed. Now the superordinate instances are the regional court of Giessen , the higher regional court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.
