history

Former school building in Eichenrod

The place will have been populated early on. Eichenrod was probably owned by Hersfeld Monastery in the 13th century . The oldest known written mention of Eichenrod was around 1550. After the Thirty Years War , only 16 of 28 farms were left. The plague claimed 62 victims.

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Eichenrod in 1830:

"Eichelrod (L. Bez. Lauterbach) evangel. Branch village; is in Vogelsberg 2 12 St. von Lauterbach, and belongs to the Baron von Riedesel, has 34 houses and 194 Protestant residents. There are 3 grinding mills to which 1 oil mill is connected. The district was completely devastated by a hailstorm on June 28, 1829. "

There were four mills in Eichenrod. One of them was an oil mill . In 2008 a mill was still in operation.

A dairy was founded in 1896 . The first aqueduct was laid around 1900 . The power grid was put into operation after 1918. The primary school at that time was inaugurated in 1929. The Catholic Church was built in the early 1950s . It belongs to the parish of St. Anthony of Padua .

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality Lautertal was newly formed on December 31, 1971 through the merger of the previous municipalities Eichelhain, Eichenrod, Engelrod, Hörgenau and Meiches. On February 1, 1972 Dirlammen and Hopfmannsfeld were added. On February 1, 1980, the name of the municipality was officially changed to Lautertal (Vogelsberg) .

Territorial history and administration

The following list gives an overview of the territories in which Eichenrod was located and the administrative units to which it was subordinate:

Courts since 1803

In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or landlords , and so from 1806 the "Patrimonial Court of the Barons Riedesel zu Eisenbach" in Engelrod was responsible for Eichenrod. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The second instance for the patrimonial courts were the civil law firms. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .

With the founding of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance 1821–1822 were transferred to the newly created regional and city courts as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. For this purpose, the stately " Lauterbach Regional Court " was created, which was now responsible for Eichenrod. It was only as a result of the March Revolution of 1848 that the special civil rights were finally abolished with the “Law on the Relationships of Classes and Noble Court Lords” of April 15, 1848. In the course of the reorganization of the judicial districts in the province of Upper Hesse carried out in 1853 , the seat of the regional court was to be relocated from Altenschlirf to Herbstein and its district was to be expanded to include the towns of Dirlammen , Eichelhain , Eichenrod, Engelrod , Hörgenau , Hopfmannsfeld and Lanzenhain , which had previously belonged to the Lauterbach regional court district However, both of these did not take effect until September 1, 1854.

On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Amtsgericht Herbstein" and assigned to the district of the regional court of Giessen .

On July 1, 1957, the Herbstein District Court lost its independence and finally became a branch of the Lauterbach District Court after it was already at the end of the Second World War . On July 1, 1968, this branch was also closed. On January 1, 2005, the Lauterbach District Court was repealed as a full court and became a branch of the Alsfeld District Court . On January 1, 2012, this branch was also closed. Now the superordinate instances are the regional court of Giessen , the higher regional court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.
