Meiches is a district of the Lautertal municipality in the Vogelsbergkreis in central Hesse .
geography
Meiches is located on the Vogelsberg in the "Hoher Vogelsberg" nature park. State roads 3162 and 3163 meet in the village .
geology
South of Meiches, in the otherwise fine-grained basalt of the Vogelsberg, there are veins and dikes of a coarse-grained rock, which is described in the literature as "nepheline indolerite" and consists of nepheline , titanium nugite, leucite , magnetite , sanidine , apatite and biotite , with the single grains reach cm size. In 1741 the rock was (unsuccessfully) mined there on a trial basis for silver extraction.
history
The earliest known written mention of Meiches as Eyches is dated after 1342. The Meicheser Totenkirche was built in 1729. Before that there was a Holy Cross Church in the same place, which until 2008 was assumed to be St. George's Church. This church was probably built around 1300.
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Meiches in 1830:
"Meiches (L. Bez. Alsfeld) evangel. Parish village; is located in Vogelsberg, 3 St. from Alsfeld, has 100 houses and 524 inhabitants, all of whom are Protestant, then 1 church in the village, 1 Todtenkirche (chapel) not far from the village, and 2 community bakeries. Among the tradespeople are some linen weavers, lathe operators, brandewein distillers, etc. At the Todtenkirche there is a baptismal font, or actually a votive cauldron, with the year CCCCCI. which is probably MCCCCI. should be read. The earlier name was Eiches or to the Eiches, from which Meiches subsequently arose. "
Territorial reform
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality Lautertal was newly formed on December 31, 1971 through the merger of the previous municipalities Eichelhain, Eichenrod, Engelrod, Hörgenau and Meiches. On February 1, 1972 Dirlammen and Hopfmannsfeld were added. On February 1, 1980, the name of the municipality was officially changed to Lautertal (Vogelsberg) .

Courts since 1803
In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or landlords and thus the Ulrichstein office was responsible for Meiches.
The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The second instance for the patrimonial courts were the civil law firms. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .
With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance were transferred to the newly created regional and city courts between 1821 and 1822 as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. Meiches fell into the judicial district of the " Alsfeld Regional Court ".
By order of the Grand Ducal Hessian Ministry of the Interior and Justice, Meiches was ceded to the district of the newly established Ulrichstein Regional Court on December 1, 1838 .
On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Ulrichstein Local Court" and allocation to the district of the regional court of Giessen .
In 1943 the Ulrichstein District Court lost its independence and became a branch of the Schotten District Court . With effect from July 1, 1968, the local court Schotten and Meiches came to the judicial district of the Lauterbach local court .
On January 1, 2005, the Lauterbach District Court was repealed as a full court and became a branch of the Alsfeld District Court .
On January 1, 2012, this branch was also closed. The superordinate instances are now the Regional Court of Giessen , the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.
