Eichelhain is a district of the Lautertal municipality in the Vogelsbergkreis in central Hesse .
geography
location
Eichelhain is the southernmost district within the Lautertal community. There is a direct connection to the highest mountains of the Vogelsberg volcano , the Hoherodskopf and the Taufstein via a hiking trail in the Oberwald .
Extension of the district
The actual place Eichelhain is in the north of the district. This extends south to Herbstein. Large parts of the district are FFH areas ( Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive of the European Union) of the Natura 2000 regulation of the State of Hesse. These areas are to flow into a biotope network of the European Union, in which the diversity of flora and fauna and the most diverse habitats are to be protected across Europe.
climate
The Eichelhain climate is exposed to the winds and uphill rain of the Vogelsberg due to its location in the valley of the Eisenbach. Two months of snow are not uncommon in winter. Rare plants and flowers, including some alpine species, thrive here thanks to the harsh climate.
history
Eichelhain probably goes back to a clearing settlement founded between the 9th and 13th centuries .
The name is not derived from the oak tree, but rather goes back to the fourth Fulda abbot, Eigil . The oldest known written mention of Eichelhain was on May 1, 1483 under the name Henne Uelteheyner . The ownership changed from the Hersfeldern over the Eisenbacher to the Riedeseler Freiherren . In 1806 Eichelhain came to Hesse.
The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Eichelhain in 1830:
"Eichelhain (L. Bez. Lauterbach) evangel. Branch village; lies in Vogelsberg, 3 St. from Lauterbach and belongs to the Baron von Riedesel, has 55 houses and 335 inhabitants, who are Protestant except for 5 Catholics. Furthermore the place has 2 grinding and 2 oil mills. A hailstorm, which affected the district on June 28, 1829, completely destroyed all field products. "
Territorial reform
In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , the municipality Lautertal was newly formed on December 31, 1971 through the merger of the previous municipalities Eichelhain, Eichenrod, Engelrod, Hörgenau and Meiches. On February 1, 1972 Dirlammen and Hopfmannsfeld were added.
On February 1, 1980, the name of the municipality was officially changed to Lautertal (Vogelsberg) .

Courts since 1803
In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or registry lords and so from 1806 the "Patrimonial Court of the Barons Riedesel zu Eisenbach" in Engelrod was responsible for Eichelhain. The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The second instance for the patrimonial courts were the civil law firms. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .
With the founding of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance 1821–1822 were transferred to the newly created regional and city courts as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. The noble " Lauterbach Regional Court " was created for this purpose and was now responsible for Eichelhain. It was only as a result of the March Revolution of 1848 that the special civil rights were finally abolished with the “Law on the Relationships of Classes and Noble Court Lords” of April 15, 1848. In the course of the reorganization of the judicial districts in the province of Upper Hesse carried out in 1853 , the seat of the district court was to be relocated from Altenschlirf to Herbstein and its district was to be expanded to include the villages of Dirlammen , Eichelhain, Eichenrod , Engelrod , Hörgenau , Hopfmannsfeld and Lanzenhain , which had previously belonged to the Lauterbach district court However, both of these did not take effect until September 1, 1854.
On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to "Amtsgericht Herbstein" and assigned to the district of the regional court of Giessen .
On July 1, 1957, the Herbstein District Court lost its independence and finally became a branch of the Lauterbach District Court after it was already at the end of the Second World War . On July 1, 1968, this branch was also closed. On January 1, 2005, the Lauterbach District Court was repealed as a full court and became a branch of the Alsfeld District Court . On January 1, 2012, this branch was also closed. Now the superordinate instances are the regional court of Giessen , the higher regional court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.
