Lanzenhain is a district of Herbstein in the Vogelsbergkreis in central Hesse .

geology

In the Lanzenhainer district there are 2 particularly noteworthy geological outcrops. On the one hand, there is the sea of rocks in the castle peace, extensive basalt blocks overgrown with moss in the middle of a mixed beech forest . On the other hand, the Cliff of Theft north of the village, proposed as a natural monument . Both geotopes are on the certified circular hiking trail Felsentour Herbstein . The Diebstein, a 577 m high rock cliff made of alkali basalt , used to be the place where thieves were handed over to the jurisdiction of the Riedesel .

history

The oldest known written mention of Lanzenhain was in 1351 under the name Lanczinhain .

The statistical-topographical-historical description of the Grand Duchy of Hesse reports on Lanzenhain in 1830:

"Lanzenheim (L. Bez. Lauterbach) evangel. Branch village; is located in Vogelsberg 3 St. von Lauterbach, and belongs to the Baron von Riedesel, has 71 houses, 492 inhabitants, who are Protestant apart from 4 Catholics. There is 1 church and 3 grinding mills, with which 1 oil mill is connected. There used to be 5 iron hammers and 1 iron smelter here. On June 28, 1829 the district was largely destroyed by a hailstorm. "

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the formerly independent municipality of Lanzenhain was incorporated into the city of Herbstein on December 31, 1971.

Territorial history and administration

The following list gives an overview of the territories in which Lanzenhain was located and the administrative units to which it was subordinate:

Courts since 1803

In the Landgraviate of Hesse-Darmstadt , the judicial system was reorganized in an executive order of December 9, 1803. The “Hofgericht Gießen” was set up as a court of second instance for the province of Upper Hesse . The jurisdiction of the first instance was carried out by the offices or landlords and thus the “ Riedeselschen Patrimonialgericht Engelrod” was responsible for Lanzenhain . The court court was the second instance court for normal civil disputes, and the first instance for civil family law cases and criminal cases. The superior court of appeal in Darmstadt was superordinate .

With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Hesse in 1806, this function was retained, while the tasks of the first instance were transferred to the newly created regional courts in 1821 as part of the separation of jurisdiction and administration. "Lauterbach Regional Court" was therefore the name of the first instance court in Lauterbach that was responsible for Lanzenhain from 1821 to 1854. In 1854 Lanzenhain was assigned to the Herbstein District Court .

On the occasion of the introduction of the Courts Constitution Act with effect from October 1, 1879, as a result of which the previous grand ducal Hessian regional courts were replaced by local courts in the same place, while the newly created regional courts now functioned as higher courts, the name was changed to the Herbstein Local Court and assigned to the district of the regional court Pouring . From 1943 the Herbstein District Court was only operated as a branch of the Lauterbach District Court before it was finally dissolved in 1968 and added to the Lauterbach District Court area. On January 1, 2005, the Lauterbach District Court was repealed as a full court and became a branch of the Alsfeld District Court . On January 1, 2012, this branch was also closed. In the Federal Republic of Germany, the superordinate instances are the Regional Court of Giessen, the Higher Regional Court of Frankfurt am Main and the Federal Court of Justice as the last instance.

Attractions

Evangelical Church, bridge over the Ellersbach

The Protestant church was built in 1630 as a rectangular half-timbered building. It is covered with shingles and was given a three-sided porch in the 18th century, which with its curved hood looks like a tower. Renovation work took place in the 1980s. At that time, double-glazed windows were used, the roof was re-covered and the interior was extensively redesigned. The altar and pulpit were uncovered and a sacristy wall was installed behind the altar, the interior walls were newly plastered and repainted. At the beginning of the 2000s, the church was given disabled access and a new shingle.
