Jost Reinecke (born August 20, 1957 in Düsseldorf ) is a German sociologist .

Reinecke studied 1977-1984 sociology , history and social education at the University of Duisburg and in 1990 in sociology at the University of Giessen with the work "interviewer and respondent behavior: theoretical approaches and methodological concepts" doctorate . The work was reviewed by Peter Schmidt and Achim Schrader. After a research stay (1993–1994) at the Department of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts ( Amherst ) , he completed his habilitation in 1996 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster .

From 2001 to 2005 Reinecke was a professor at the University of Trier ( empirical social research / methodology) and since 2005 he has been a professor at the University of Bielefeld (quantitative methods of empirical social research). His main research interests are the theoretical and empirical significance of the theory of rational decision in the social sciences; also health, AIDS prevention and contraception of adolescents and young adults; Development of juvenile delinquency in longitudinal section; Structural equation models; Panel analysis. Among other things, he is on the board of directors of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence at Bielefeld University.

Since 2002, a panel study with 3,400 young people from Duisburg has been taking place under the leadership of Reineckes and the Münster criminologist Klaus Boers . At the beginning of the survey, the respondents were 13 years old (7th grade), the investigation is to be continued until they are 30 years old. The results presented so far relate to the dark field of juvenile delinquency. A central finding is the fact that there is already a significant decrease in criminal offenses from the age of 15. Even among the so-called intensive offenders, a reduction in the number of offenses was found from the age of 16. The study is part of the DFG- funded project Crime in the Modern City , within the framework of which a panel study with young people from Münster was carried out between 2000 and 2003.
