The Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG) is a scientific institution at Bielefeld University . It was founded in 1996 and in 2005 consists of about 30 academic staff from various disciplines such as sociology , psychology , education , political science , social anthropology , economics , criminology and history . The causes and effects of social conflicts are investigated in the IKG. Work topics are social disintegration , group-related misanthropy and conflicts in cities.

The institute was headed by Wilhelm Heitmeyer between 1996 and 2013, and Andreas Zick has been the new director since April 9, 2013 .

The research of the IKG is currently being deepened and expanded by the graduate college "Group-related enmity: causes, phenomenology, consequences", which is an interdisciplinary project of the German Research Foundation at the universities of Bielefeld, Marburg and Giessen.

From 2002 to 2011, the research results of scientists in a series of books entitled were German states , published. This series serves to "... continuously gain clarity about the social, political and mental state of this republic in individual scientific analyzes and through essays, reports and interviews."
