Hans-Jörg Albrecht

Hans-Jörg Albrecht (born January 24, 1950 in Eßlingen am Neckar ) is a German legal scholar and criminologist . He is emeritus director at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law (today: Max Planck Institute for Research into Crime, Security and Law) and was head of the criminology department there.

Life

Albrecht studied law and sociology at the University of Tübingen and the University of Freiburg from 1968 to 1973 and received his doctorate there in 1979 at the Faculty of Law , he also completed his habilitation in 1991 in Freiburg. He was then an adjunct professor for criminal law and related areas at the University of Konstanz .

From 1993 he taught as a full professor for criminal law, juvenile criminal law , penal law and criminology at the Technical University of Dresden . From 1997 to 2019 Albrecht was director at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law (today Max Planck Institute for Research into Crime, Security and Law) in Freiburg and honorary professor at the local university. He was a visiting professor in Tehran , Cambridge and five Chinese universities, namely the University of Wuhan , Hainan , Renmin University of China , Educational Peking University and China University of Political Science and Law. He is an honorary doctor of the Law Faculty of the University of Pécs in Hungary and a member of the advisory board of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence at the University of Bielefeld .

Albrecht's work focuses on sanctions research , sentencing , drug law and drug crime , juvenile crime , environmental crime , organized crime , hate crime and criminal law reforms in transition societies .

Albrecht did not attach much importance to the data retention instrument in the prosecution of serious crime. He prepared a corresponding report on behalf of the BMJ.
