Hansjörg Albrecht

Hansjörg Albrecht (* 1972 in Freiberg ) is a German conductor , organist and harpsichordist . He is artistic director of the Munich Bach Choir and the Munich Bach Orchestra .

Life

Hansjörg Albrecht began his musical training as a member of the Dresden Kreuzchor and then studied conducting and organ in Hamburg , Lyon and Cologne . Parallel to his studies, he was assistant organist at the main church Sankt Michaelis in Hamburg for seven years . From 2000 to 2005 he worked closely with the singer and conductor Peter Schreier as an assistant, organist and harpsichordist . Since the 2005/2006 season, Hansjörg Albrecht has been artistic director of the Munich Bach Choir and the Munich Bach Orchestra.

As a conductor, he has worked with artists such as Dorothee Oberlinger , Arabella Steinbacher , Sharon Kam , Simone Kermes , Klaus Florian Vogt , Peter Seiffert , Michael Volle , Franz Grundträger and the Donlon Dance Company or with orchestras such as the Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI in Turin , the orchestra and choir of the Teatro San Carlo in Naples , the Orchestra Sinfonica Siciliana, the Haydn Orchestra , the Prague Philharmonic , the Moscow Baroque Orchestra, the Bavarian State Orchestra , the Munich Radio Orchestra , the Munich Symphony Orchestra , the Bach Collegium Munich, the Tölzer Knabenchor , the State Philharmonic of Rhineland-Palatinate , the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra , the Elbipolis Barockorchester and the Carl-Philipp-Emanuel-Bach-Chor Hamburg, the Chamber Orchestra Carl-Philipp-Emanuel Bach Berlin and the ensembles of the International Bach Academy of the Gächinger Kantorei and the Bach College in Stuttgart.

Concerts have taken him to festivals such as the Gustav Mahler Music Weeks in Toblach , Settembre Musica in Turin, the Heidelberg Spring , the Festival European Weeks in Passau , the International Organ Week in Nuremberg , the Saar Music Festival , in halls such as the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic , the Musikhalle Hamburg , the Philharmonie Munich , the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden , the Warsaw National Philharmonic , the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Teatro Politeama in Palermo and the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome.

Concerts as an organist take him to the major concert halls and cathedrals of Europe, Russia and the USA such as Saint Eustache in Paris, Westminster Cathedral in London and St. Patrick’s in New York, the Konzerthaus Berlin and the Berlin Philharmonie , and the Frauenkirche Dresden , the Brucknerhaus Linz and the Orgelpark Amsterdam, the Auditorio de la Musica Madrid , the Rudolfinum in Prague, and the Culture and Congress Center Lucerne . He has also made guest appearances with well-known orchestras such as the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra , the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, the St. Luke's Chamber Orchestra New York, the Orchester de la Suisse Romande , the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia , the Czech Philharmonic , Kremerata Baltica and Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra .

Hansjörg Albrecht is also active in the field of new music , for example in world premieres of works by Thierry Escaich , Philipp Maintz , Rodion Schtschedrin and Enjott Schneider , with whom he works closely.

Since 2006, Hansjörg Albrecht has signed a contract with the label “Oehms Classics” as conductor and organist. A separate SACD series The Art of Organ Transcription is dedicated to the organ as a concert instrument. His recording of the suite The Planets by Gustav Holst was nominated for the 2013 Grammy Award in the category “Best Classical Instrumental Solo”.
