The Münchener Bach-Chor eV is a concert and oratorio choir in Munich in Bavaria . He became well known under his director Karl Richter . Since 2005 it has been headed by Hansjörg Albrecht .

history

The choir emerged in 1954 from the Heinrich Schütz Circle at the Markuskirche in Munich , which was directed by Michael Schneider . In 1951, Karl Richter took over the choir, which was renamed the Munich Bach Choir in 1954 . Numerous radio and vinyl recordings were made under the direction of Richter. Concert tours took place in the USA, Canada, Japan and other European countries

After the sudden death of Karl Richter in 1981, Hanns-Martin Schneidt took over the post of artistic director from 1984 to 2001 . At the beginning of 2005 the choir elected the young conductor and organist Hansjörg Albrecht as his successor.

program

The focus of the choir's work is on the performance of cantatas , oratorios , passions and a cappella music. In keeping with the name of the choir, works by Johann Sebastian Bach are strongly represented in the repertoire. The choir, which consists of around 80 members, is not limited to works by Bach, but also performs works by other composers from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern periods. The choir works mainly with the Munich Bach Orchestra , which was also founded by Karl Richter in 1953 and consists of members of Munich orchestras and professors from the University of Music. Longstanding concert masters were Otto Büchner and Kurt Guntner.
