Simone Kermes (born May 17, 1965 in Leipzig ) is a German opera, operetta, lied and concert singer with a soprano voice .

Life and artistic work

The singer is a trained specialist in writing technology . Soon after completing her professional training, she studied singing with Helga Forner at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . Then she attended master classes a. a. with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf , Barbara Schlick , Jessica Cash and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau . She completed her studies and two subsequent postgraduate courses with distinction. In 1993 she successfully took part in the Mendelssohn Competition in Berlin and in 1996 she won a prize at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig.

Numerous engagements followed. She has made guest appearances at the opera stages of Stuttgart, Wiesbaden, Bonn, Dortmund, Mainz, Koblenz, Copenhagen, Cologne, at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York and at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. Her repertoire of roles includes Gilda in Rigoletto , the title roles in Alcina , Lucia di Lammermoor , Orpheus and Eurydice , Konstanze in Die Entführung aus dem Serail , Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte , Contessa Alamaviva in Le nozze di Figaro , Clivia in Clivia and Rosalinde in The bat . In 2014 she sang La Folie in Rameau's Platée for the first time at the Theater an der Wien and at the Lincoln Center in New York.

Already during her studies the artist performed concert engagements in Europe, the USA and Japan. She was a guest at international and national festivals such as the Schwetzinger Festival , the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music , the Kissinger Summer , the Festival Ancient Music in Knechtsteden , the Ludwigsburg Castle Festival , the Göttingen Handel Festival and the Festival for Early Music in Neuburg an der Donau.

In addition to many radio and television productions, numerous CD recordings complement her artistic work. In 2001 she sang on the CD of the Balthasar Neumann Choir and Ensemble under the direction of Thomas Hengelbrock in The Creation of Joseph Haydn, which was awarded the ECHO Klassik in the category choral work recording in 2003 .
