Barbara Schlick

Barbara Schlick (born July 21, 1943 in Würzburg ) is a German singer ( soprano ) and singing teacher.

She studied singing at the University of Music in Würzburg , then with Hilde Wesselmann in Essen, among others. At an early stage she turned her focus to oratorio and lieder singing .

In 1966 she became a soloist in Adolf Scherbaum's baroque ensemble and in the following years made a name for herself as an interpreter of baroque and classical music, especially the works of Johann Sebastian Bach . In 1971 she toured Russia and in 1972 the USA . From 1975 to 1976 she toured Israel and again the USA.

Schlick has appeared on stage in music centers all over Europe, for example in London at several Haydn concerts and in Amsterdam , where she sang the soprano solo in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem . She was a soloist at the festival events in Bordeaux , Paris , Bruges , Berlin and Munich . In 1980 she sang in Orfeo ed Euridice by Joseph Haydn at the Stadttheater Bern , in 1988 she sang at the York Early Music Festival, in 1989 and again in 1994 at the Handel Festival in Göttingen . Under the direction of Wolfgang Helbich , she sang at numerous concerts in the Bremen Cathedral .

She made numerous appearances on radio and television in Germany, Austria, France, the Czech Republic, Italy, Belgium and Luxembourg. In addition, Barbara Schlick taught at the Musikhochschule in Würzburg for eleven years. From 1997 she was professor at the Cologne University of Music in Wuppertal and until 2002 was a visiting professor at the Maastricht Conservatory .
