Helga Forner

Helga Forner (* 1936 in Berlin ; † December 3, 2004 in Leipzig ) was professor of singing at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig . She was one of the most famous German singing teachers before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall .

Career

From 1954 to 1960 she studied singing at the University of Music Leipzig a. a. with Ks. Eva Fleischer . Afterwards she was a vocational college lecturer at the Halle Conservatory for five years. In 1965 she received a teaching position at her former training center in Leipzig. There she was appointed lecturer for singing only in 1978 after being rejected three times (for political reasons). In 1987 she received an extraordinary professorship and was finally appointed full professor for singing five years later. Helga Forner was married to the dramaturge and musicologist Johannes Forner, who also taught as a professor at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig .

In 2001 Helga Forner retired, but held a teaching position until 2004.

The vocal teacher, who led master classes in Germany and Europe, had trained a large number of singers, including Eva-Maria Bundschuh , Simone Kermes , Romelia Lichtenstein , Jochen Kupfer , Thomas Wittig .
