The Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento ( Italian Orchestra Haydn di Bolzano e Trento ) is an Italian symphony orchestra . It is based in Bolzano and Trento , named after Joseph Haydn . His repertoire ranges from baroque to contemporary music .

history

The Haydn Orchestra was founded in 1960 at the instigation of the cities of Bolzano and Trento as well as the provinces of South Tyrol and Trentino . Originally it had a relatively small line-up of 40 musicians. The first concert was a performance of Mozart's Requiem in Trento. In accordance with its mandate, from now on it supplied its two hometowns, but also smaller towns in the region, with regular concert performances. A defining figure in the early years was the co-founder Andrea Mascagni (1917–2004). From 2003 to 2012 the orchestra was under the direction of Gustav Kuhn . In 2013 Daniele Spini took over the artistic direction of the orchestra, and Arvo Volmer took up the post of chief conductor in 2015 . Giorgio Battistelli will succeed Spini as Artistic Director in 2021 .

Over the years the Haydn Orchestra has given numerous international concerts and has worked on many recordings . As a guest conductor, u. a. Claudio Abbado , Eliahu Inbal and Riccardo Muti .
