Andrea Mascagni (born August 7, 1917 in San Miniato , † February 8, 2004 in Trento ) was an Italian musician and politician .

Life

Andrea Mascagni was the son of the composer and conductor Mario Mascagni , Pietro Mascagni's cousin .

In 1939 he completed his composition studies at the Civico liceo musicale " Gioachino Rossini " in Bolzano , where his father was director. A year later he also completed his chemistry studies at the University of Bologna . In late 1942 he joined the Communist Party of Italy (PCI). Under the name "Commander Fausto Corsi" he participated in the partisan struggles against Italian fascism and the National Socialist forces in the valleys of Trentino-South Tyrol as part of the so-called " Resistance " and became a member of the Comitato di Liberazione Nazionale (CLN) in Bozen and Trento, then President of the PCI in 1944, which is why the German troops wanted him, but they mistakenly arrested his father.

After the Second World War , Mascagni became director and teacher of the “Claudio Monteverdi” Conservatory in Bolzano , which emerged from his father's Civico liceo musicale “Gioachino Rossini” , and was a co-founder of the Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento . From 1948 to 1965 he was elected five times in a row to the city council of Bolzano. From 1976 to 1987 he was a member of the Senato della Repubblica for the Trentino-Alto Adige region (7th – 9th legislative period). Mascagni was also President of the Center for Music Education and Music Sociology at the University of Trento and Vice-President of the Musicians' Union in the Italian Federation of Trade Unions, CGIL .

He was married to Nella Lilli Mascagni (1921-2009), who was also active in the Resistance movement and was therefore imprisoned in 1944 and 1945. The daughters Andreina and Lorenza emerged from the relationship.
